Step 3: We Handle the Responsible Disposal and Recycling

Arwood Waste is environmentally friendly and we are a GoGreen certified company. Minimizing environmental impact and giving back to the community by recycling, reusing or donating as much as possible is very important to us.

Responsible Disposal Matters

How to Prepare for Your Junk Removal Appointment

We value your time and want to make the junk removal process as easy as possible. Here are a few tips on preparing for your appointment.

Identify Your Junk

Make sure you know where all the junk items are currently located. Create a list and label them with notes or colored tape. If your items are spread over multiple rooms or floors, don’t worry about moving them. Our teams are trained to safely lift these items, and have special equipment to use when necessary. Heavy lifting is part of our junk removal service.

Group Small Items Together

If you have a lot of smaller items hanging around, gather them up in bags along with any loose rubbish. The process of gathering smaller items may help you identify larger items you don’t want to move yourself. This will also speed up the process when our team comes to haul your junk away.

Locate and Separate Hazardous Materials

Oil, solvents, batteries, paint, asbestos, medical waste and other hazardous materials need to be processed separately. These items require specific disposal methods to protect the environment and for the safety of our crew. Let us know if you have any of these items when you book your junk removal service so we can make the proper arrangements for their disposal. Label and separate them (if possible) from other junk items.

Environmentally Friendly Junk Disposal and Recycling

Arwood Waste is dedicated to reliable and responsible junk removal and disposal. We always aim to meet or exceed expectations and it’s this philosophy that drives us to not only follow applicable environmental requirements but to go beyond them and seek creative ways to reduce, reuse and recycle wherever we can. We pride ourselves on being accountable to the community by emphasizing environmental stewardship and corporate social responsibility. We support recycling education efforts like The Recycle Guide that provide information and resources for our communities. Between recycling and donations, we keep as much as 80% of your junk out of landfills.

Donations

Much of the materials we haul can be donated and reused, so we make sure to identify and donate any reusable furniture, electronics, clothing and home wares to local charities whenever possible. Even salvageable construction debris is donated to Habitat for Humanity. We feel it’s important to take care of our community, and one of the ways we do that is by making sure nothing goes to waste. Our socially responsible practices ensure your old junk is put to good use and kept out of landfills whenever possible.

Recycling

Recycling your junk matters! We make every effort to recycle items that cannot be salvaged and reused. Some of the materials we recycle include paper, electronics, metals, glass, concrete, construction debris, drywall and furniture. When items are dismantled for recycling, components that contain hazardous materials are removed and disposed of separately. By recycling your junk, we help save natural resources, reduce harvesting of new materials, prevent harmful chemicals from being released into the environment and reduce the growth of landfills.

Disposal

When items cannot be reused or recycled, we make sure they are disposed of properly. Many junk items contain chemicals such as lead, cadmium, and mercury that can be harmful to health and the environment if not disposed of properly. These chemicals are released into air and water when they are crushed in landfills and should never go in your regular household garbage. We take safe disposal of these harmful materials very seriously, which is why we meet all regulatory requirements, often adopting our own higher standards to protect the environment.

Committed to Responsible Disposal

Tips on removing junk in Jacksonville, FL

How much does junk removal service cost?

Rates are dependent upon where you live, the type of junk and amount of it. Junk removal companies typically have a minimum charge of $50 to $125 for coming out and picking up small loads, such as a single piece of furniture, a few bags of junk or a kitchen appliance.

Larger cleanups that require more manpower and labor will often run several hundred dollars or more depending upon the scale of the cleanup. Construction and demolition (C&D) debris cleanups typically cost more than a general household junk removal job.

The average cost ranges between $150 and $500, but large jobs (e.g., construction site cleanups, multiple) can run several thousand dollars.

Will they haul away asbestos or other hazardous debris?

Some do, but most cannot. The proper licensing is required to haul hazardous debris in most jurisdictions across the country. Always ask the junk hauler if they are licensed to accept hazardous materials anytime you need the following items hauled:

  • Refrigerators and air conditioners
  • Construction debris with asbestos or lead paint
  • Flammable liquids or explosive materials
  • Lead-acid batteries, such as a car battery
  • Household hazardous wastes

Flag Day 2016 – U.S. Flag Retirement Ceremony

June 1, 2016

Flag-Retirement-Ceremony

Arwood Waste Holds Annual U.S. Flag Retirement Ceremony

In conjunction with Flag Day and National Garbage Man Day celebrations, Arwood Waste recently held it’s annual Flag Retirement Ceremony. This year’s ceremony was held at the home of John D. Arwood, President of Arwood Waste. The U.S. flag is a beacon to the world of the core American values that we hold most dear–Freedom, Honor, Justice and Respect. While those values will always live on, each physical U.S. flag eventually reaches the end of their life-span. Arwood Waste is proud to continue offering this free public service throughout the year in partnership with local Boy Scout Troops and local U.S. Military.

How To Participate

If you have a damaged, faded or old U.S. flag, Arwood Waste is honored to properly dispose of it for no charge. We want to make this service easy for you.

1. Send us your Flag.

Drop off your flag at any Arwood Waste location during regular business hours or mail your flag to our corporate offices at:

Arwood Waste
13255 Lanier Rd
Jacksonville, FL 32226

2. We will retire your flag.

Arwood Waste stores all U.S. flags received and holds a Flag Retirement Ceremony in conjunction with Flag Day each year during which all collected flags are respectfully and properly disposed of. We’d be honored to include yours.

3. Share with a Friend.

Properly retiring a flag is not a process that everyone is familiar with. Why not let your friends and families know about this free community service from Arwood Waste?

Arwood Waste is proud to offer this public service at no charge.

Stay Green When Planning Your Move With These Recycling Tips

May 23, 2016

Whether you’re headed to a new home or a new office, moving can have a big impact on the environment. After all, vast quantities of packing materials and boxes are used to transport your belongings from point A to point B, and much of those materials end up in landfills. Similarly, as you go through your belongings and decide what not to keep, you may end up discarding more than you thought. The good news is that there are ways to recycle your materials, minimize the impact of your move, and make sure your exciting transition is positive for both you and the environment! Here are some tips to consider.

Newspapers - Local Recycling Resources - Call toll free (888) 413-5105 for a free quote on recycling dumpster rentals, roll off dumpster rentals, and commercial dumpsters in your area.

1.Rethink cardboard boxes. Buying cardboard boxes is expensive and damaging to the environment. You may be able to rent plastic bins for moving, or else find cardboard boxes for free at local supermarkets or “big box” stores. Reusing old cardboard boxes is certainly better than buying new. Either way, be sure to recycle or repurpose the boxes after your move is complete.

2.You may already have packing materials! Sure, you could buy packing peanuts, bubble wrap, and other expensive materials that you’ll end up throwing away. But old towels, shirts, blankets, and newspaper will also do the trick of protecting your belongings during a move.

3.Donate unwanted items. When packing for a move, it’s common to find items that are simply not worth the trouble of transporting. But one person’s trash is another’s treasure, so consider donating unwanted belongings to a local Goodwill or Salvation Army. That’s better than seeing your old stuff end up in a landfill!

4.Consider a paper-shredding service. Some old documents and files just aren’t worth taking with you, especially if you have digital backups. This is particularly true for businesses. If you have file cabinets full of paper, consider a shredding service to securely shred and recycle your old documents.

5.Find a green mover. Not all movers are as conscientious about the environment as you are, so shop around to find a moving company with earth-friendly practices. Green movers may use fuel-efficient trucks, reusable furniture wraps, and plastic crates for transporting goods. You’ll feel good about your move, and you could even save money!

6.Choose the right waste management company. Businesses and even home owners on the move may be able to choose their waste management company. If so, you have the chance to find a company that cares about the environment as much as you do! When evaluating a waste management company, consider factors like cost, pick-up days, options such as recycling and yard waste pickup, and most importantly, a great reputation.

Cardboard - Local Recycling Resources - Call toll free (888) 413-5105 for a free quote on recycling dumpster rentals, roll off dumpster rentals, and commercial dumpsters in your area.

Whether you’re moving your home or office, you have the opportunity to plan a green move to be proud of. You can be sure Arwood Waste will do our part as your waste management company to ensure your unwanted materials are recycled with care and integrity.
